How to Invite Children to Your Wedding
If you want to invite children to your wedding, the general rule of thumb is to include their names on a separate line on the inner envelope, rather than including them on the outer envelope…but only if they are under the age of 18.
For example:
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Thomas and Emily
Children over the age of 18 who live at home should receive their own invitation. However, if there are more than one child living at home that is over 18 years old, they can be included on the same invitation. In this case, you would write out there full names on the outer envelope and their title and last name on the inner envelope.
The outer envelope would be addressed as follows:
Mr. Thomas Andrew Smith
Miss Emily Ann Smith
Remember: the word “and” suggests that the couple is married so it would not be needed in this case!
The inner envelope would be addressed as follows:
Mr. Smith
Miss Smith
So…what do you do if a child has a different last name? Proper etiquette says you write their full name on its own line on the inner envelope.
For example:
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Miss Emily Andrews
Something important to note as a guest: If children’s names are not listed on the inner envelope, it can be assumed that children are NOT invited.
